MONSIGNOR McHUGH SCHOOL is a Catholic Institution of the Diocese of Scranton dedicated to addressing the spiritual and academic needs of its students. We endeavor to cultivate well rounded and social individuals while challenging students to be active life-long learners. We pursue this mission by providing programs for students and parents that enable them to become competent and responsible members of society in light of the gospel values.
Established in 1961 as Pocono Catholic Missions School serving grades 1 through 12, the elemetary portion of the school was renamed Monsignor McHugh School after its visionary founder, Monsignor Connell McHugh, PA who was at the time pastor of St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mount Pocono. Upon the closing of the high school in the late 1980s, the elementary portion of the school was able to expand to use the entire building.
Along with providing classroom space for all of our grade levels, Monsignor McHugh School is able to provide a dedicated classroom for the Music Classes, Art Classes, and Computer Classes
Monsignor McHugh School is part of the Notre Dame School System of the Diocese of Scranton, and serves the Pocono area in Monroe County.

Catholic Identity While Monsignor McHugh School welcomes students of all faiths, we teach a rigourous Catholic curriculum. Besides teaching students to be prepared academically for the next step in their educational careers, we believe that religion can and should be used to guide their daily decision making. We work to teach the Faith, and form their consciences to prepare them for life. Religion is taught on a daily basis, and Masses, Eucharistic Adoration, prayer services, rosary devotions, and Stations of the Cross, are held on a regular basis.
Computer Program Our computer lab has been operating since 1996, and has been updated with 30 new computers in 2005. All computers are hard-wired to the Internet to ensure constant connectivity. Our Computer Lab also features a SmartBoard for teacher use during instructional time. Each class receives computer instruction once a week, and each teacher is encouraged to use the Lab when it is free for their own instruction time.
Library and Media Center Visits to the school library occur on a weekly basis, and are an integral part of the reading curriculum for grades Per-K through 8th grades. During the school year 2006-2007, our library was automated, and to date the entire collection of books have been bar-coded and are available for circulation. This library is staffed by the Library Supervisor and serveral parent and grandparent volunteers.
The children may search the computers for different age-appropriate books of interest, or may use the computer to aid in research. The library is also stocked with many reference books which are available during their library time.
Teachers also may borrow DVD's and videos from the library at any time; there are over 470 to choose from!
